Paradise Friends Choice Event – May 23, 2024
Join us for a look back in time at the Gamble Plantation Historic State Park. This antebellum mansion was built by Major Robert Gamble and was headquarters of an extensive sugar plantation. It is the only surviving plantation house in South Florida. The home is furnished in the style of a successful mid 19th century plantation.
Also on site is the Judah P. Benjamin Confederate Memorial. Benjamin was a Confederate Cabinet member who hid out at the Gamble Plantation while escaping to London to avoid arrest at the end of the Civil War. His is an interesting story.
The Gamble Plantation Historic State Park is 1 hour north on I-75 from Punta Gorda at 3708 U. S. Highway 301, Ellenton, FL. Our guided tour is at 10:30 a.m., but feel free to arrive a little early to see the museum. Cost of the tour is $6.00 per person, payable at site.
After our tour we will enjoy lunch nearby at the Anna Maria Oyster House.
